PORT BLAIR, SEPT 7: On 04-09-2017, a lady, Deepika, 18 r/o Shoal Bay, had a sudden bout of giddiness and fell down into the sea while waiting at Chatham jetty for ferry boat to Bamboo Flat on 4th Sept. See her drowing the constable on duty S. Ganeshan (PC/446), posted at police station Chatham, immediately jumped into the sea to save the girl. Another constable of Fire Service posted at Fire Station Chatham, Lokanadhan (PC/82), who was at the jetty, also jumped into the water to provide support to S. Ganeshan. Also, SHO CCS Abdul Arif went into knee deep water and extended help.
The weather condition at sea was very rough and both the constables had to struggle a lot. However, finally they succeeded in pulling out the lady from the sea in an unconscious condition. Thereafter the lady was immediately shifted to G.B. Pant Hospital for treatment with the support of a lady constable Premeela (PC/2118), where she was declared fit after treatment.
Both the constables have shown exemplary bravery to save the life of the lady.
